Earth is home to many plants but we are also its worst enemy. Humans are the cause of so many problems that affect our planet Earth. Pollution, global warming, and deforestation are just a few examples of humans’ role in plants’ change for the worse. Countless studies are done every year of the trash and carbon that is spread in our atmosphere due to human activities. 14 billion pounds of trash are tossed into the oceans every year by us and it's not expected to slow down any time soon. This is a huge problem because that trash hurts the existing marine life in our oceans. 1 million seabirds die from plastic a year and around 100 thousand marine animals as well. That’s just another sad state that humans are responsible for. Global warming has been a debate for some people but numbers don't lie; and it's clear there's been a change in climate behavior. In the past 50 years the temperature globally has been increasing at a historical rate. Furthermore, according to NASA’s 134 year record only 1 of the 16 hottest years are in the year 2000 thousand or higher. The main cause of global warming is fossil fuels which causes 2 billion tons of CO2 a year in the US alone. The increase in temperature is a threat to the human way of life, it affects our farms and wildlife. Not only does it affect our wildlife, deforestation is also a growing problem on our planet with one and a half acres of forest being cut down by the second. Most of us see the forest as a bunch of trees and a few plants in one area but there’s an entire ecosystem that's filled with different types of animals in just that one piece of land. 28 thousand species are expected to go extinct in the first quarter century if deforestation isn't taken seriously. That's also 28 thousand organisms that make a difference in our world. Even the oxygen we breathe is affected by deforestation. The amazon river is a great example with 20% of all oxygen coming from the rainforest but is also being let burn with little effort to stop it. Put all this info together and it shows humans’ effect on the planet. If we don't do anything or at least start doing something about are current state; then our trees will keep falling, our waters contaminated, and zones will just keeps getting smaller. If we do our part everyday then change can happen, something as simple as putting the recycling in its proper place can help out. Do you really wanna see our home destroyed by our own hands even when we have the chance to prevent it?
I’ve been to different countries like Salvador and Mexico and seen first hand what pollution at a huge scale looks like. What my dad told me where forest and beautiful rivers where now apartment buildings and malls. My mothers city in Mexico was full of crops and different sorts of fruits but now it's full of trash and whole crop fields are dead because of the lack of rain. I don’t want the same thing happening to my kids, I want to make sure the things I see today are still there when I’m 30, 40 or even 60 but at this rate my kids might not ever see the plants or animals from my childhood.
